FEATURED AUTHOR: H.C. Townes, Writer of Supernatural Thrillers

Our featured author H.C. Townes has written a tale about Japanese Vampires in his book, Penance.
We get to know more about the author in this interview.

Tell us something about the man, H.C. Townes. Who are you?

Well, this is a good question. I guess you could say, I'm a guy who likes to disappear into his own little created worlds. I’ve always loved to write. I began when I was twelve, and it took my entire life before I decided to actually publish. Before, I just wrote for the fun of writing. Then, more and more friends asked me to publish my work. After years of debating and procrastination, a little faith, and fighting a ton of self-doubt, I decided to move forward. I grew up loving fantasy and everything vampire or werewolf. I’m not a huge superhero fan, but supernatural is my niche. I wanted deeply to re-imagine vampires in the way I see them, add in a touch of romance, and plenty of death, and there you have it, my book.

And who's the writer? How was Penance conceived?

Myself as a writer… I guess you could say, being ADD helps with that. Most my short stories and book ideas are spawned from split second reactions to conversations I happen to be having. Penance was birthed from my love of Vampires and all things otherworldly. I wanted a story that broke away from mainstream vampire stories, one that I could build a series from. While watching ‘Marco Polo’ on Netflix, I was inspired to say what if? The rest was rapidly developing in my mind. Penance: Book Two, is now in development. I see myself turning this into a long series of books.

Why did you choose the supernatural thriller genre?

I chose vampires because they’ve always allured me. I believe all myths are tied to truths. I asked myself, "What would my vampires look like and how would they act.” From there, I developed my plot and built my story.

Is there a book or author that inspired you to be a writer?

I always loved Tony Hillerman’s works about Native American folklore. He was definitely a huge inspiration to my imagination, though our books are very different.

What can readers expect when they read Penance?

My readers can expect to fall in love with a character and then root for another, just to end up pulling for that person again, later in the story. They can also expect to find a healthy balance of action, romance, and suspense. I love a good cliffhanger, so my readers can expect a surprise ending.

Where can they buy a copy?

As for now, my ebook and paperback are available on Amazon.

Are you releasing a new book anytime soon?

I am currently working on book two of Penance, as well as a short story compilation.

What do you love about being an author?

I’d say the biggest love of being an author, is to let people into my mind. There, they are free to linger and enjoy it, or run like hell if they don’t.

What is your message to readers?

My message would be to always believe in yourself and chase your dreams. Life is full of naysayers and doubt. They have to find their own inner belief and just go for it. Along the way, if they happen to read my book and enjoy it, let me know. If my work positively affects their dreams, that’s more than enough for me.
