Tell us more about James, the man behind the words.
Hello, I'm James Ruvalcaba. I am a family man and hold them near and dear to me. I am a down to earth person that loves interactions and conversations. I believe the more we communicate the more we see the beauty of God's previous workings. Prior to being a writer , I worked with the special needs population for 10 years. I wanted to give back to the community and assist in achieving a higher quality of life as a tribute to my Sister who suffered from disabilities herself.
What made you write about The Light Through the Pouring Rain? We understand that it's based on a true story.
Yes it is a true story. I began writing The Light Through The Pouring Rain because of a promise I made to my fiancée on her last day. I wanted to honor my fiancée Anabel's legacy and to be a testimony of God's goodness. Now this is a lot to digest, but being a testimony of God's Goodness is revealed in the book to give it more context.
Did you have a difficult time writing about this touching but painful experience?
At times it was difficult depending on the subject matter. Some chapters could be written in a day, some took days to finish. Certain chapters would take me back to that time and would bring tears to my eyes. It was difficult but I knew the bigger picture at hand.
What is your purpose in sharing this very personal story?
My purpose for telling this story is to uplift and give perspective to others about their own lives. Now everything in this life is an apples to oranges comparison. Everybody has been dealt a different hand in life , but perspective is everything. Sometimes we need to take a step back to realize and appreciate what we have.
What message do you want to impart to readers?
I want readers to leave with a sense of inspiration. If they can take lessons and perspectives given in the book to their own lives then I feel I accomplished what I set out to do.
The first book is always the hardest. Did you always want to be a writer?
I can't necessarily say this was a lifelong childhood dream , but I respect the craft. I had different aspirations throughout different phases of my life , but when the pandemic hit our World I knew this was the time and I seized the moment.
Are you planning to write more books, now that you've had a taste of self-publishing?
Yes, I plan on writing more. I want readers to follow along in my journey in attempting to navigate through life without my fiancée and how to bounce back from such a tragedy.
