FEATURED BOOK: After Midnight - Gothic Historical Romance Novel by Diane Shute

Do you enjoy the books of Jane Austen or The Bronte Sisters?
Check out Diane Shute's After Midnight

As far as Alix is concerned, she has no past, only today. And her plans for the future are creating a dynamic stable of thoroughbreds that will take the 1830s British racing world by storm.

When forced into assuming the role of her sister as Lord Griffon's wife in London, her plans are threatened by disturbing images of a castle from her past that fight to resurface. Alix is determined to find a way to take control of her life and fulfill her dreams.

This women's historical fiction novel is the first in the Midnight Series. A humorous historical fiction mystery with charismatic, realistic characters, After Midnight offers the young adult and woman’s fiction market a fresh and engaging perspective.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING

"I haven't read this kind of fiction in many years, but I was immediately swept up into the story & couldn't read it fast enough! I was sorry to reach the end!"

- Amazon Review

Mystery, intrigue and misunderstanding are just a few words to describe this historical fiction. Nicholas our main male protagonist reminds me of Darcy in Pride & Prejudice, a man misunderstood and our female protagonist Alix fits Elizabeth as introspective. What brings these two together is deceit. Alix’s twin sister Lily is married to Nicholas in a loveless union and has found herself in a rather delicate situation. In a scheme of deceit, she has her twin sister take her place while she works out her difficulties. Since Lily and her husband keep their distance from each other, it is rather easy for Alix to take her sister’s place as Nicholas’ wife. How far can the deceit go? What are all the circumstances to bring this deceit? Finding the answers to these questions is what keeps me captivated with this story.

The flow of the plot was a little difficult for me; however, I did find my way back into the story to the very end. The ending was sweet and I found myself wanting more!

"After Midnight by Diane Shute is one of those books that will take you by surprise.. if you let it. I say that because it does start out slow. There was a moment where I was about to give up. I stuck it out, and within 10 more pages I was so glad I did. Part Historical fiction, part romance and a whole lot of mystery.

Take the Journey back to 1830 and the world of British Horse racing. Beyond that, it is a story of moving forward... Loved the characters."

- Amazon Review

"After Midnight is a book destined to be a movie. Like Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, it travels through the English landscape of wealth and privilege, intrigue and propriety. The subtlety with which author Diane Shute writes, draws readers into the story, capturing imagination and desire. Ultimately this is a book about love lost and love found. It will tug on your heart strings as sorrows mix with possibilities, and it will leave you eager for its sequel."
