Tell us something about the woman, E.L. DuBois. Who are you?
I am an easy going southern belle at heart. I love being a mother, and I have always been very artistic. I have loved to create since I was young.
And who's the writer? How was THE GLASS MASK conceived?
I have always loved to tell stories. Since I was a child I would make up my own bed time stories and tell them to myself as a way of getting to sleep. This story came from my own experiences. It started out as a way of healing and coming to terms with everything I had been through. Over time, it just blossomed naturally into the book.
How did you come up with the idea for this book?
Since it is based on real experiences the storyline came naturally. As I wrote, I realized how naive I had been. I expected a fairy tale life and got the exact opposite. This realization is what led to the concept of giving the characters fairy tale names. I wanted that naivete to resonate throughout the book so the reader could better understand the heroine's consistent need to try and adapt to the situations she ended up in. In most fairy tales, the concept is simple. There is a princess, a hero, and the villain. The hero saves the day. In The Glass Mask, my Princess has to come to the realization that her hero and villain are one and the same and there is no one to save her but herself.
Is there a book or author that inspired you to be a writer?
I am an avid reader. I love many writers and poets. Robert Frosts "The Road Not Taken" has been my favorite poem since I was young. I have carried a tiny copy in my wallet for years. I used to believe it meant I should choose my own path in life even if that path was rocky and wanted wear but it was still your choice. With everything I have been through, I can see that maybe sometimes, others' actions can force you into a path you never imagined you would be on. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty really influenced me as far as giving me incentive to tell my story. I read about these complex women in a similar situation and I didn't feel alone. When you are in a situation like the one I experienced feeling alienated is a key part of the control held over a victim.
What can readers expect when they read The Glass Mask?
A rollercoaster, literally never a dull moment. I used to joke that I felt like I was living in a Lifetime movie and had "how is this even real?" moments on a daily basis. Much like Beauty, I never knew what the next drama would be, but I always knew there would be one and I needed to be prepared for it. I also knew it would probably be something so outlandish it would leave me shaking my head in disbelief. So, in the book, I try to give the reader that sense of expectation.

Are you releasing a new book after this?
Yes, I am writing a short accompaniment to The Glass Mask about the aftermath victims experience and how I personally navigated from victim to survivor.
I have an accompaniment of Beauty's poetry called "Poetry of the Broken" that I will release.
Finally, I have a really cool Paranormal Horror/Thriller called Ransom Texas that is a series. Growing up, I loved "From Dusk till Dawn" and anything paranormal, so I always wanted to create something with that edgy paranormal feel to it. After living in West Texas during my early 20s I got the spooky vibe the desert has. When you are isolated and there isn't another town for at least a hundred miles bad stuff can happen and no one would be the wiser for days, weeks, or maybe never. One day I was talking to my brother and it came to me. What if a small town golden boy was forced into a fall from grace because of a destiny he had no idea existed. Throw in Texas, where football is king and I had the makings of Ransom. Since I am of Native American decent I did allot of research into folklore and origin stories for tribes native to West Texas. I took a little from each story and went from there. I wanted to pay homage to my Texas roots as well so in the end I was able to create a truly unique experience for the reader that will leave them on the edge of their seats up until the very end.
What do you love about being an author?
I love telling a good story and knowing it resonates with the readers. I want to invoke emotions and provide an escape to the readers because I can relate to the need for that escape. I understand that a good book can take you places you never dreamed possible as long as you allow yourself to get lost in the experience.
What is your message to readers?
