FEATURED AUTHOR: Ken Stark - A Writer of Horror

Our featured author is intent on giving you nightmares.
After publishing his first novel under Severed Press in 2016, Ken Stark has self published his latest horror novel, Arcadia Falls.

Tell us something about the man, Ken Stark. Who are you?

I'm just a humble horror writer, doing what he can to mete out a few sleepless nights. I kept my writing to myself for most of my life, but the time finally came to unleash my dark vision on the world, and I've never looked back. Zombies, ghosts, phobias; they're all fair game.

And how was Arcadia Falls conceived?

Arcadia Falls came about when I asked a daughter of a friend what kind of books she liked to read, and her response was 'something scary, with a monster and some kind of mystery'. Pressed further, she insisted that the monster be something entirely new, so no zombies, no vampires and no werewolves. And so 'Arcadia Falls'. A brand new horror for a brand new set of nightmares.

Why did you choose the  horror genre?

I grew up in an age of monster movies and Mutual Assured Destruction and where every sci-fi book and  TV show seemed to remind us of the coming apocalypse, so I didn't choose horror, horror chose me. But I realized early on that those were exactly the kind of stories that stuck with me, and for good reason. Humans are hard-wired to feel fear, so even as I began my writing career as a child, I knew that if I could pluck that particular cord, I could affect a reader on a very primal level.

Is there a book or author that inspired you to be a writer?

I loved Stephen King and Isaac Asimov and HG Welles, but my true inspiration was Arthur Conan Doyle. Whether it was Sherlock Holmes or The Lost World, his writing never talked down to me. And when I imagine him sitting at a roll-top desk and doing it all with pen and paper, I almost wish I could turn back the clock. ....Almost.

What can readers expect when they read Arcadia Falls?

Well, Arcadia Falls is clean enough for your kids to read, but it's as scary as anything else I've ever written, so hang on tight! The way I figure, if I can give nightmares not just to my regular readers but to their kids as well, hey, that's a win-win!

Where can they buy a copy?

The ebook is Amazon now, and the paperback is on the way...

Are you releasing a new book anytime soon?

The next book in my Stage 3 series will be out sometime next year. I'm hoping for spring, but don't hold me to it. In the meantime, I'll probably bring out a short story or two, but again, no promises. You'll just have to stay tuned.

What do you love about being an author?

Everything. Every single thing. Every second, every word and every new reader. I wouldn't miss any of this wild ride for the world.

What is your message to readers?

I always tell writers to write what they want to write, so I can only tell readers to read what they want to read. If my stuff doesn't do it for you, find someone's who does. Find your bliss. Read whatever floats your boat. Just read!

Tell us where we can find you.

By all means, drop me a line at http://www.kenstark.ca or find me on social media. I'd love to know what you think!
