Michael D. Durkota holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. His debut novel, Once in a Blue Year, follows two friends during the Persian Gulf War as they struggle with their navy service, adulthood, and relationships. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his wife and is currently working on his second novel and a collection of odd stories and poems.
